About the initiative

In line with our mission statement  "A Cleaner Internet. A Better Society."  Yellow Brand Protection launched the #imforreal initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to raise awareness amongst consumers about the danger counterfeit goods constitutes to society.

The Internet has made the sale of counterfeits more widespread than ever. Mind-blowing as it may seem, counterfeit goods constitute about 7% of global trade and cost an estimated 2,5 million jobs world wide. It’s a market that has grown 10,000% in the last two decades and it exists virtually in every sector. According to Forbes, in 2018 counterfeiting was the largest criminal enterprise in the world.

For the consumers it’s often almost impossible to recognize the difference between counterfeits and genuine products. When consumers end up purchasing fakes they experience lower quality and begin to lose faith in the brand. This in turn can lead to less creativity and innovation within the brand itself.

Counterfeit electronics have been known to start fires and counterfeit auto parts like brakes, can cause serious accidents.

And then there are counterfeit drugs and health care products that can constitute serious health risks or even death.

It's also important to think about the damage caused by the production of these counterfeit products. Without proper regulation, the production facilities involved can easily ignore environmental, worker safety and child exploitation standards.

So what might seem like a victimless crime is anything but. It is time to put a stop to this practice once and for all.
